Employee Relief Fund Awards Summary 2001


We are happy to announce that through the contributions of International Paper employees and the company match on those donations, the International Paper Employee Relief Fund has issued checks totaling $620,000 to relief agencies assisting individuals affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.�

Listed below are the organizations that have been selected to receive funding, and a brief description on how the funds will be used.�

We want to thank every employee who contributed to the ERF, as well as those employees who made direct donations to agencies to assist in this relief effort.�

Army Emergency Relief - $155,000

  • Provide emergency financial assistance to families of Army personnel lost in the Pentagon attack

  • Provide scholarships for surviving children

  • Reserve will be used to assist families of Army personnel who lose their lives in the war effort

Navy Marine Corps Relief Society - $155,000

  • Provide assistance to widows and children of Navy personnel lost in the Pentagon attack

  • Provide scholarships to surviving children and assist in writing off student loans

  • Reserve will be used to assist families of Navy and Marine personnel who lose their lives in the war effort

New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund - $60,000

  • Assist families of rank and file firefighters who lost their lives in the WTC attack

  • Assist families of EMS workers and the Chaplin lost in the WTC

New York City Police Foundation Heroes Fund - $60,000

  • Assist families of police officers who lost their lives in the WTC attack

  • Assist surviving officers with psychological needs and post-traumatic stress

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund - $130,000

  • Provide assistance to dependents of all victims of the terrorist attacks

  • Support undergraduate education of eligible students

  • Fund is expected to continue through 2030

Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service - $60,000

  • Provide assistance to unemployed individuals (airline, travel, food, hotel industry and shopkeepers) who were affected by the WTC attack

  • Provides counseling services at three sites

  • Provides job training

  • Reaches populations not be served elsewhere (immigrants, etc.)
